The SMART Framework

To get the very best results from the emails you send, you need to focus on the following five areas that make up the SMART acronym:

Start Smart and Shift Your Thinking

Your email list is traditionally seen as an asset. As you know, email is one of the most effective ways of reaching your audience and you can use it to make offers and generate significant revenue.

But you must look after your email list, otherwise it will become a liability. So you need to think differently.

Manage Your Engagement

Engagement is important for any business but is also becoming one of the most important factors being used by the major email providers for deciding if you reach the inbox.

Authenticate Your Emails

Authentication of your email domains and senders is vital. Getting this wrong or ignoring it can prevent you from reaching the inbox. Getting this right is the first priority.

Raise Your Reputation

Reputation of your domain name and the IP addresses that your emails are sent from is a major factor with respect to spam filtering and reaching the inbox.

Transform Your Content

We all know that copywriting is key to capturing the attention of your prospective customers, but it is also a significant factor used by email filtering engines and the major email providers when deciding if you even reach their inbox.

Start Smart and Shift Your Thinking: Summary

Here, we’ll share the high level stats that quickly and simply show how well you’re managing the most important aspects of your email marketing.

One of the most important things to keep in mind is that not all the contacts in your email list will be valuable subscribers.

Contacts who haven't opened any of your emails in the last 90 days are considered liabilities and you’ll be damaging your email reputation every time you send something to those people.

The EmailSmart Score, shown below, tells you how many liabilities, as well as how many assets, you’ve been emailing in the last 30 days. Your score should be as close to 999 as possible, with a perfect score meaning you were only emailing assets.

The more assets you’re mailing (and the fewer liabilities), the more likely it is that your new contacts will engage with you.

So your EmailSmart Score has a direct impact on your New Lead Hit Rate, which we’ve included after your EmailSmart Score.

Your EmailSmart Score

955

Out of 999

Your current EmailSmart Score is 955 out of a maximum 999.

You are doing good (900-975)

  • Of the 2,247 contacts you have emailed in the last 30 days (excluding new leads), 95.6% have engaged in the last 90 days. These are the assets on your email list.
  • 4.4% of these contacts have not engaged in the last 90 days. These are the liabilities on your email list and you should not be mailing these contacts.

Your New Lead Hit Rate

89.2%

10.8% haven't opened anything
89.2% have opened something

Your current New Lead Hit Rate is 89.2% [An excellent score is 90% or higher].

This is based on the 74 contacts that have been added to your email list in the last 30 days.

You’re currently getting great engagement from your new leads. It’s important that you continue to follow the best practices for lead generation and engagement management to safeguard your reputation and budget.

Your Disengagement Index

In the last 30 days, you've had a net loss of 138 contacts.

More Information

This table shows a breakdown of the number of contacts that have engaged at least once in the last 30, 60 and 90 days:

Contacts that Engaged Contacts that Disengaged
30 days 1853 212
60 days 2065 221
90 days 2286

In the last 30 days, you generated 74 new leads (see New Lead Hit Rate, above).

In the last 30 days, you had 212 leads disengage.

This is a concern and it’s important that you increase your lead generation activities as soon as possible.

You’ve lost the equivalent of 186% of the new leads you generated in the last 30 days.

This is a major concern. More than half the new leads you’re adding are being negated by the number of contacts you’re losing due to disengagement. It’s vital that you increase your lead generation activities as soon as possible.
